House Renovation I – Some big changes and even more mess

I’m very aware that I had great plans for my renovation posts but these past couple of months have been hectic and uncertain, so progress has been slow. Despite MultiFinish plaster being extremely hard to find, and me starting back at my full time job, there has been some improvement with the biggest part of the project getting underway. Building the extension has already made a huge difference but I’ll get to that soon, and, painting a wall something other than white or magnolia is making me so happy.

We now have two rooms which have started to be painted and the vision is finally coming to life. The main bedroom at the front of the house, is ready to be wallpapered and I’m glad I decided to go with white and grey for this room because its nice and bright and feels really spacious. This is potentially the only room in the house that is going to be grey as I’m personally not a huge fan of the current trend of a fully grey house. This shows in the second bedroom where I just had to use Mizzle from Farrow and Ball. It’s my new favourite colour of paint as it shift from green to blue with a grey undertone that actually looks great with the pine woodwork and plaster. After painting one wall I had an idea of what I wanted the rest of the room to look like and I can’t wait to get it done and show you.

The rest of the upstairs is still far from completion but its almost finished being plastered. The hallway, landing and stairs is going to be big part of the renovation and will be done when we are a bit further on with the bedrooms and bathroom. The smallest bedroom will just be painted all one colour and kept really simple in there, and we are yet to decide on a bathroom suite which will then determine the tiles and wall colour.

The two reception rooms are in a bit of a state at the moment and looking very yellow. Our current focus is on the bedrooms and extension with small jobs being done in these rooms as we go along. Unfortunately, not much to update you on here.

The extension has improved the house massively and I can’t get over how bright it is. We are currently having some issues with it which will hopefully be straightened out soon so we can continue with the work. The extension connects with the dining room and old kitchen (which will become the new utility and downstairs toilet) creating a huge open plan kitchen/diner/living space with views over the garden. Speaking of the garden. It looks a mess right now and I don’t think it will look much more impressive any time soon as we move into autumn but even just a tidy up will make it look better.

We have been able to make more progress recently and we also have a lot planned for the next week or so, including doors, windows and bathrooms. We don’t know what’s going to happen in terms of another lockdown so I can only hope that we don’t have more setbacks and everything is sorted out quickly and safely. I won’t promise that I’ll have more blog posts up soon, but I will try. Thanks for reading.
